Engaged

the cab is dark

as the city lights

race against the glass

your parents still

can't get over what

we just told them

after an almost

two hour dinner

I catch your eyes

as you try to keep

them on the road

that knowing smirk

grows in your lips

and blooms in your voice

"When do you want

to set the date?"

Of crows and ravens

they were abundant today

their obsidian wings

gliding overhead

making me pause and watch

these messengers in flight

I wondered if they had brought

tidings of victory or defeat

as they did to ancient battlefields

under Morrigan's reign

but my hope was for them

to continue their journey

well beyond my place in the tower

over the wide expanse and mountains

on desert winds arriving to you

and lay at your feet

all the polished thoughts

and jagged emotions within

I would give them these

to send to you

and in their eyes a glimpse of I

for you to keep until we meet

Moon mirror

what do you see

when you look at the moon

do you see me looking

back at you

while the sun reflects

off its pale cold skin

do you see me there

dancing in your memories

I beckon to your upward glance

to that slight and momentary chance

that I might catch your gaze

in the mirror of the moon

what I wouldn't give for that time

when you trace the vine on my finger

and caress the ruby on my temple

you have done this many times before

in the mirror of the moon

rest now in your sheets and bed

as the stars caress your dream-locked head

and gentle is the kiss of night

upon your soulful eyes

slumber now my searching heart

in the mirror of the moon

At this shore

standing at this shore

I am lost between the surge

and retreat of the endless waves

each surge injects me with

every passing thought

I've had of you

it pushes each future memory of you

into the depths of my soul

and drowns me in

your voice I've never heard

each retreating wave takes you away

further out to sea from me

pulling at the grasp I've made

for you for all these years

this shore is where

I can turn to take my path

on safe ordinary dirt in solitude

or I can follow the retreating waves

further out to sea

where they've taken you from me

and get drowned in your voice

I will hear some October morning

Swing and a miss

I fucked up and

I thought I lost you

I revealed all I could

reaching out with bare hand

wanting to leave my name

written in your latte froth

but blatant truth fell mute

and the best I could give

were clues leading to clues

it's the name of the game

we seem to be playing

I was ready to shake the glass

of this clasping claw arcade

though cheating never won

us anything in the past

and all I want is the future

where you can touch my hand

and we don't have to rely

on these voiceless conversations

Denim nap

 we went beyond

when I laid my head

on your leg

you sat on the

end of the couch

as I stretched out

on the rest of it

I felt the denim of

your jeans against

the skin of my cheek

it felt like home

a place where I

could quietly drift

off into blissful sleep

but something else

unexpectedly happened and

someone else was convinced

that what you and I have

is beyond my head

resting on your denim jeans

Familiar as self

we see each other through the shadows

that space scatters between us

and our visions have pierced the smoke

that time billows into our days

each time you journey through the dark

I reach for your flesh to hold

every time I whisper your sweet name

you long for my breath on your ear

the want bleeds into the routine

stealing our thoughts from the now

a gravity that wages war on our lives

each other becoming our drug of choice

as we revel in the could be conversations

and seek out the eventual rendezvous

our souls are content in this communion

of distant voices familiar as self

Yearnful

in a stack of journals

have you found me

to pull me close

and give me life

the ink my blood

the paper my flesh

as you flip the pages

and trace the words

with your ravenous eyes

I am laid out before you

wishing you to savor

each morsel you have written

kiss the paper with your ink

soak it in your desires

so I may swim in your voice

after the paper tears

and is drenched in your tears

lay it out to dry

in the Vegas desert sun

and lick the salty saline silk

from the pages of my soul

The next morning

you rouse me at dawn

to reassure me yesterday

wasn't a dream

your touch seeps deep

within my soul

and lures me to your eyes

you tell me something

your lips have said before

but my ears receive your voice

in virginal bliss and warmth

though our souls have done

all of this many times

our bodies haven't and quiver

under the weight of the experience

you reluctantly rise

and ask me how I like my coffee

I cease the reply to make you pause

to hold you in your stance and gaze

to keep you in this moment

just a little longer

Stars in our scars

you have seen it all

in my skin

and I have doubted

that any of this was true

but do I look into a mirror

when I search for you

your words

you keep them safe

and hidden from view

they have given you

your depths

through the pain and ridicule

but I will savor each syllable

caressing each page

you have filled with

your breath

do we rewrite the past

as we search for the future

have we given each other

each other's scars

each burnished spot glimmers

and guides our way

earning the jealousy of the stars

When a fib is true

 in waking

I will hold on to you

no matter

where we might have left off

we'll return

to that moment of our desire

as we pass

through this hall of veils

each silken

vision fading from our view

dissolving into

the breath you leave on my neck

when touch

ignites the torch between our flesh

our dreams

cast the light before our feet

both running

down this hall of tangled veils

until in waking...

when we have wakened...

we find our heart within our chests

The left one

you don't need to

give me your heart

we already share one

don't give me the world

or take a bullet for me

just look for my hand

it's waiting for yours

remember we're not two

strangers on the sidewalk

we've done this all before

and will do again, perhaps

but for now look for my hand

that longs for your touch

you will read my past

written across my skin

the same words engraved

on the dreams you wear as rings

when you find my hand

patiently waiting next to yours

grasp it and scream those same

words engraved on your dreams

pull me close and hold me tight

I will surrender my feathers

I will not take flight

Sean

 Dare I write this into

existence

when you take my hand

in yours

when I take your eyes

into mine

and the heat between us is

immediate

Dare I want to bend

time and space

as the endless wait

continues

through snowy frozen

nocturnes

that melt into our words

unspoken

Dare I speak your name

aloud

so my lips feel your

vibration

so my tongue tastes your

essence

so this silent madness

makes sense
